In order to fight the stigma of mental illness, we must first humanize it.

So tell me your story. Tell me your story and I will use it to fight prejudice, discrimination and stigma.

Here is your chance to show the world the real face of mental illness – explain to the world how it happened, how you feel, and what you have experienced. If you are sad, isolated, depressed – tell me why. If you are angry, ashamed or afraid – tell me why. Here is your chance to be heard. Here is your chance to tell the world that mental illness is not a choice, it is not an excuse, it is not fun, nor is is uncommon. I encourage everyone to challenge the world’s perception that mentally ill people are incoherent, violent, and dangerous.

My inbox is open (elizabeth.dowdy (@) gmail.com). Tell me your story.
